Scar tissue as very different qualities from its surrounding tissues and working with scars is like speaking a different language to to tissue. The scar massage is light, almost casual touch and is rarely painful. The work can be transformative for scar tissue, even after one treatment. There is often a positive cosmetic change and the functional change from the work can be profound.
Scar massage can smooth out lumps and bumps, and help smooth out the underlying fascial tissue.
The work was developed by Sharon Wheeler, who is a long time Rolfer and teacher. Her contribution to the body of work has been revolutionary.
