Our Policies
What payment methods does Bodywork Professionals accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, check and cash.
Do you take insurance?
We would, but insurance does not take us. We can give you a receipt for you to submit to your insurance company. Many of our clients have programs that allow them to get reimbursed from their work with us. We will happily issue a receipt for up to one year past the date of service. Information needed to submit for reimbursement can be found here: https://bodyworkprofessionals.com/policies/information-needed-for-insurance-billing/
Tipping
Tipping is always optional and appreciated. It is an additional gift to your therapist. Gratuity can only be left in cash or check; we cannot add it to your credit card.
Cancellations
We understand there are important reasons to cancel an appointment, but as a courtesy to other clients and our staff, please kindly give us a 24-hour notice of cancellation to avoid a full charge. A credit card or gift certificate/gift card deposit may be required at the time of booking your appointment.
Arrival Time
Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes in advance of your first session. You’ll need to fill out an intake form that can be found here and your therapist will want to discuss your session before it begins. Your session begins at the time scheduled and ends after the duration scheduled. So if you have a 2 PM, one hour massage it ends at 3 PM. Our rooms are often very tightly scheduled and our therapist cannot go over in time. Sessions that start late may have to be abbreviated to fit within the allotted time.
Late Arrivals
If you are running late we ask that you please call the office to notify your therapist. We will do our best to accommodate your session but may have to abbreviate it depending on our scheduling needs. The session cost will be charged as originally booked.
Bad Weather
If the weather is bad or unsafe driving conditions exist, you can expect a call from us regarding your appointment. We donāt want you to feel unsafe, but we recognize here in upstate New York folks may want to keep their appointments no matter the weather, so we do our best to be here. Cancellations due to weather are no problem. If you find yourself with the day off because of weather, we happily take last-minute appointments. If one of the staff is unable to come in we will call you immediately and book you with an available therapist or find another time with your therapist.
Using our Gift Certificates
Giving the gift of massage is wonderful for any occasion and we provide a range of gifts to meet your needs. Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash. All prices and services are subject to change without notice. Gift certificates never expire. The price paid for the certificate is good FOREVER. After one year, the certificate will simply hold that value paid at the time of purchase and may no longer cover the time indicated on the front. Massage can help relieve the stress of daily life!
Iāve never had a massage, this is my first massage, what should I expect?
Welcome to what we hope will become part of your on-going journey to wellness, balance and relaxation. Hereās what to expect. First, to ensure we understand your needs and current health status, you will complete a basic Intake Form. When you arrive, your therapist will spend a few minutes answering any questions you may have, getting a sense from you where youāre having any issues or complaints, what you hope to get out of the dayās session and where you are feeling the most pain or tension. The therapist can then design the best session to meet your needs.
Massage and bodywork sessions are conducted on a traditional massage table with fresh sheets, a covering blanket and often with heating pads to promote your comfort. At Bodywork Professionals we have private treatment rooms and you will have privacy to undressed to your level of comfort and then settle under the sheets. Most sessions will start with you face down with your head in a special head rest. Once the work on the back of your body is complete, the therapist will have you turn face up under the sheets and continue working your arms, legs, neck and shoulders.
Using professional draping techniques, the therapist undrapes and re-drapes each area of your body as they work through the major muscle groups of the body. In a typical session, the therapist will work the muscles of the neck, shoulders, upper and lower back, legs, feet, arms and hands. The work will be done in a way that helps re-integrate the whole body.
Communication is key: if you ever feel uncomfortable or if any technique is causing undue pain, share that with your therapist and they will adjust their work to meet your needs.
What should I wear during my session?
This is a matter of personal preference. Many clients choose to disrobe completely, but others prefer to leave their undergarments on. Your body will remain professionally draped throughout the massage, except for the area being worked on.
Iām new to massage therapy, what kind of session should I book?
Most new clients will book a Swedish Massage to help them get a sense of massage therapy. There are many other modalities available at Bodywork Professionals. See our DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES. Always feel free to call with any questions and weāll help design a session that meets your needs.
How long is each session?
Typically clients will book a one-hour session. At Bodywork Professionals we also offer 90-minute sessions to those seeking longer sessions. We also offer shorter 30 and 45 minute sessions. If time permits, we can offer a 30-minute add-on to a session if you find you need more time and our schedule is able to accommodate the time.
I need really deep pressure, can you help?
Deep Tissue Bodywork is our specialty. This work is slower, deeper and more focused in areas where you are having specific pain or tension. Your therapist will ask throughout the session if the pressure is appropriate to your needs and adjust their work accordingly. We also offer Ashiatsu, where the therapist works over the table using specialized bars and using their bare feet they can work to a much deeper level.
How often should I get a massage?
The frequency of your massage therapy will depend on your goals and current health status. After an injury you may want to use massage therapy more frequently to relive overall tension and provide appropriate support and muscular recovery to the injured area (we may ask you to get approval from your treating physician). If you are experiencing health challenges or chronic conditions that cause pain and tension, you may want more frequent sessions in order to maintain a level of relief. If you are active in sports or engaged in physically demanding work, you may want shorter more frequent therapy sessions.
If you are seeking therapy aimed at relief from lifeās daily stress and tension, you may want to create a monthly therapy plan. Talk to your therapist and we will design a program that meets your needs.
As massage therapy becomes part of your overall wellness plan, you might schedule sessions monthly or every 2-4 weeks.
And of course, massage is wonderful for any special occasion to simply offer relief and relaxation. At Bodywork Professionals we offer beautiful Gift Certificates and specials for Motherās Day, Fatherās Day, Valentineās Day and during the holiday season. Check our web for updates.
Do you offer Couples Massages?
Yes. We are pleased to offer Couples Massages in the same room in our Saratoga Springs and Niskayuna locations. At our Latham location, you can book to have massages conducted at the same time but each in your own private room. Please note: These sessions MUST be pre-paid by credit card at the time of booking. It is recommended you phone our office to ensure the appointment is booked properly.
How is the experience at Bodywork Professionals distinct from other providers?
Our three offices in Latham, Niskayuna, and Saratoga Springs are designed to appeal to both men and women with simple and calming, traditional furnishings. Unlike many massage providers that provide ancillary spa and beauty services, Bodywork Professionals is focused solely on professional massage and bodywork. Itās all we do and we stake our reputation on it.
Do you provide immediate or emergency services?
Call us and weāll work to schedule a last minute appointment with a qualified massage therapist. If itās a medical emergency, please call 911.
What is customary when it comes to tipping my Massage Therapist?
Tips are neither required nor expected but are always appreciated. Those who choose to leave a tip often leave between 10-20%. Tips should be offered directly to your therapist. We cannot add any tip to your credit card payment, so tips need to be made in cash or by check made out to the individual therapist.
