Hot Stone Massage in the Capital Region

Hot stone massage uses smooth, heated basalt stones as an extension of the therapist’s hands. The heat moves into the muscle tissue, so tight areas release faster and the therapist can work deeper without the discomfort that deep pressure alone can cause. The result is a session that is both deeply relaxing and therapeutic.

Bodywork Professionals offers hot stone massage at all four of our studios: Latham, Niskayuna, Saratoga Springs and Clifton Park, NY. Every session is performed by a New York State licensed massage therapist.

What To Expect During a Hot Stone Session

Your therapist begins with Swedish and deep tissue techniques to warm the tissue, then places heated stones along the back, shoulders, hands and feet while using additional stones to massage the muscles directly. Stone temperature is checked constantly and adjusted to your comfort. You stay fully draped throughout the session, and the therapist checks in on pressure the same way they would in any massage.

Benefits of Hot Stone Massage

Heat increases circulation and loosens connective tissue, which is why hot stone work is a good fit for chronic muscle tension in the back, neck and shoulders, stiffness from desk work or driving, stress and poor sleep, and recovery after physical work or training. Many clients who find deep tissue work too intense prefer hot stone because the heat does part of the work.

Who Should Not Book Hot Stone

Hot stone massage is not recommended if you are pregnant, have diabetes with reduced sensation, high blood pressure that is not controlled, open wounds or skin conditions on the treatment area, or a recent injury with swelling. If you are unsure, book a Swedish or deep tissue session instead and talk with your therapist, or call 518-MASSAGE before booking.
