Words from a new mom

Words from a new mom

Of all my life’s joys and achievements to date, giving birth to my daughter, Aria, and becoming a Mom most definitely tops the list. Motherhood has been a role I have desired and am enjoying thoroughly. But, as with most things, being a mom is not solely fun and games- there is epic responsibility and grit that comes with the territory. Hands down- mothers are needed. They are providers, soothers, listeners, and teachers. They have a built in nurturing capacity and the ability to break barriers in the protection field. I would literally do ANYTHING to keep my daughter safe and healthy; I felt this way since she was in the womb and I don’t anticipate the feeling to dissipate much as she grows older.

As I write this and stare down at the milk-drunk infant implanted in my elbow nook and waistline crevice , I’m reminded of the huge sense of pride that came along with Aria. I’ll never forget my first solo walk out of the house, a few days after returning home from the hospital. During my stroll, I yearned to sing out the the neighborhood- “I just gave birth to my daughter!! I’m a new mom! I did it! She’s amazing!” I ended up just quietly soaking up the sunshine and fresh breeze, but the feeling still surges in me nearly each time I head out into the world. I wonder if this sensation will also stick around…

Motherhood truly is a role of honor, sacrifice, and grace. I have never felt stronger about the integrity of intuitive decision-making. My best choices have been gut-inspired and my greatest downfalls have resulted from internet-search rabbit holes. In the larger scheme of things, I’ve only had a small slice of the parenting pie; there is still so much material to dive into. I’m extremely grateful for the phenomenal rank of women- particularly friends and family- that help inspire and guide my heartfelt choices.

All things said and done, Motherhood is a great privilege and right of passage. From a new Mom- here is a huge salute to all mothers that have come before me, to those learning and and growing into their role, and to all mothers-yet-to-be. Cheers to a well- deserved day of celebration.
